Vote For Issue 2 on November 5, 2019

Brooklyn City Schools’ Issue 2 is a Renewal Levy that will NOT Raise Taxes

The Brooklyn City Schools is asking voters to approve Issue 2, a renewal levy, on the November 2019 ballot that will NOT RAISE TAXES for residents in our community. Successful passage of Issue 2 renews approximately 6.0 mills, or $1,587,121 of annual revenue, for the Brooklyn City School District. The funds that will be renewed by the passage of Issue 2 were first approved by voters in 2015 and will not increase taxes for Brooklyn residents. The District is required to return to the voters in the form of renewal levies so that voters can affirm their continuing support for funding that is already in place. The Brooklyn City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved two compatible resolutions earlier this summer and Issue 2 was designated by the Board of Elections just this past week.

Funding renewed by passage of Issue 2 continues vital services and operations of the Brooklyn City Schools, including personnel, technology, performing arts and athletics. The District will be hosting its next Finance Forum on Wednesday, October 16th at 7 p.m. at the Acres Community Center. Please plan to attend this first Finance Forum on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, for more information about Issue 2, the Brooklyn City Schools’ no new taxes renewal levy on the November 2019 ballot.

The Brooklyn City Schools hosted its first in a series of Finance Forums earlier this week, where the community had the opportunity to listen to important student and District successes along with valuable financial information. Led by Superintendent Dr. Mark Gleichauf, the presentation included the most recent accomplishments on the state report card including strides made in the Progress and Graduation Rate. The second part of Dr. Gleichauf’s remarks included the need for Issue 2, the District’s No New Taxes Renewal Levy on the November 5th Ballot. An emphasis was placed on the fact that Issue 2 will not increase people’s taxes since it is a Renewal Levy that was first passed in 2015 by voters in our community. After the presentation, those in attendance had the opportunity to ask questions and sign up for various aspects of the Support Our Schools levy campaign committee. The next Finance Forum will be held on Wednesday, October 16th at 7 p.m. at the Acres Community Center. Thank you for your continued support of the Brooklyn City Schools.
